Blog Archive Friday Factoid NYU Stern for Career Changers We all know that some aspiring MBAs look to their time in business school as a platform through which they can execute a career change.  Recognizing that these “career switchers” can benefit from as much exposure as possible to their desired new industry, NYU Stern offers its Industry Mentoring Initiative (IMI).   IMI provides students who are committed to changing their career path with a chance to immerse themselves in their new targeted industry. Specifically, Stern partners with major corporations in New York City whose employees agree to mentor Stern students who wish to make a career shift. Students thereby gain access to industry-specific mock interviews, networking opportunities and QA sessions with their mentors.  In 2011â€"2012, four IMI tracks were offered: Consulting, Investment Banking, Marketing, and Media Entertainment. All first-year students can apply to participate in the IMI, and each year, approximately 8â€"15 students are selected for each career track. The Movie 3 Idiots - 1252 Words

3 idiots At first, I felt that I would not like the movie because it has a different language. But as the scene pass by I became interested in watching because the first few scenes were funny. Then the movie caught my attention and I started to focus on watching. The movie â€Å"3 idiots† has many lessons in it about hope, friendship, studies, family, and the goodness of life. It has a great message to the audience. The movie tells the viewers to think positive always, its famous dialogue is ‘all is well’. It means that one should not fear their problems instead face your problems with confidence because every problem has a reason and that reason has a good outcome. The movie brought a message that a student should choose a course which†¦show more content†¦It is hard to be the top in a class but students should see to it that they will not fail their class so that the tuition fees that were paid by their parents will not be wasted. The dean of college in the movie was Viru. His way of teaching lacks enthusiasm. He is also strict to his students. His students find it hard to understand the lesson because they feel pressured more than being taught. For me, the movie has lesson which they want to impart to teachers as well. Teachers should not make their students feel pressured inside a classroom. It is nice to know that the teacher is good in teaching that is why the student remember his/ her name rather than remember the teachers name because he/ she is a terror teacher. Students do not like to attend a class wherein they will feel nervous the whole period for the whole semester. Chatur, Viru’s favorite student, believes in memorizing over understanding the lesson to be successful. He was humiliated for giving a ridiculous speech in front of everybody because Rancho tricked him. And when Chatur found out about it, he promised to get revenge to Rancho by becoming more successful than him. Chatur became successful but not enough to get ahead of Rancho’s success. The moral here is that it is not wrong to dream big but be sure that the reason for your dream is good. It is okay to be successful for good reasons. In â€Å"The Crucible†, the author, Arthur Miller, conveys what he believes Senator Joe McCarthy is doing during the Red Scare. The Salem Witch Trials were true events, while this play uses these trials and adds a fictional twist to show a point. Witchcraft was punishable by death during this time. Once names started flying in town it was like a chain reaction, people were accusing others of witchcraft because they were not fond of them or they had something they wanted. Some definitions state mass hysteria as contagious, the characters in this play deemed it true. In this play, innocent people were hung because some of the girls in town cried witch. To start from the beginning, Abby, Tituba, and the girls were out in the forest one†¦show more content†¦Later that night, at dinner, Abby starts screaming saying that she has been stabbed. Abby says that it is Goody Proctor in spirit. They have a warrant for Goody Proctors arrest and go to the Proctor’s hou sehold. They search the Proctor’s house and find the poppet Mary made, after they Proctors have said they have no dolls in their household. Because of this scenario, Goody Proctor was thought to be a witch and sentenced to be hung unless she confesses. Several characters that accused others seemed to have other motifs than to cleanse the town of witchcraft. One, for instance, was Thomas Putnam. Putnam was a wealthy and greedy citizen of Salem. During the play, he accuses people of witchcraft to acquire more land. In the play, Giles Corey states that Putnam told his daughter to accuse George Jacobs of witchcraft. If Jacobs were to hang, the only citizen in Salem wealthy enough to buy his land was Putnam. Giles reported this and when he would not name the man who told him, Danforth arrests him for contempt of court. They torture Giles by placing large stones on his chest, making it hard to breathe, until he confesses. The only words Giles spoke were â€Å"more weigh t†. Mulan Is Sexist Disney movies feature female characters in a variety of roles, from a damsel in distress needing a man’s help to a woman who becomes her own hero. Mulan is one Disney character who has a seemingly feminist role. The movie features an unordinary girl who is meant to bring honor to her family by being the perfect woman for a man to marry. However, that’s not who she truly is. When her father gets summoned to serve in the military, Mulan poses as a man and takes his place. She trains diligently and becomes an impressive soldier who eventually saves China from the Hans, almost single-handedly. In the end, she becomes a national hero, brings honor to her family, and starts a romance with the soldier who trained her. However,†¦show more content†¦Mulan’s father snaps and shouts at her to know her place; her place being a girl who has no right to an opinion on the decisions of men, the gender that holds the power. Mulan’s father treated her with sexist disrespect, yet Mulan chose to risk her life to save him. While this isn’t wrong, and it shows that Mulan cares about her family and is strong enough to not always listen to men, it is tolerance of the sexist treatment she has faced.
